Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Mixed media on canvas. Over a background of gesso and acrylic paints with metallics, cotton threads stitched in a messy type of embroidery. This piece reflects the aftermath of a devastating fire, the landscape transforms into a tapestry of burnt reds and charred trees, a stark reminder of nature's fury. Yet, amid the ashes, resilience emerges as new life begins to take root. Birds, including the striking black vulture, a symbol of renewal, showcasing survival against all odds. The cycle of destruction and rebirth unfolds, illustrating the enduring strength of the natural world.
Animals, birds and sea life - as spiritual or symbolic figures --are integrated through stitched outlines, and what I refer to as messy embroidery, over a painted background; representing traits like resilience, gentleness, freedom and intuition. Each material and element is intentionally placed to give the work dimensional depth and tactile richness, inviting viewers to look closer and feel a sense of connection.
